Choose task to delegate

It is necessary to use discretion to identify the task which can be delegated. As quoted above, there are some tasks which cannot be delegated and which need your personal undivided attention. These should be taken off the list of the tasks you are likely to delegate.
What You Should Delegate?
The following tasks are ones that you should delegate.
1. Tasks which dont require imagination
These may be tasks that need to be done once a week, once a month, or once every time a project is completed. Before delegating these tasks, make sure that they are necessary. Unnecessary tasks should be eliminated.
2. Tasks which may interest people
Do not keep all of the fun tasks for yourself. This will offend your teammates and cause them to resist the boring tasks that you give them. If you have completed a certain task repeatedly, you may have become bored with it. Delegate this task to a teammate if you think they would enjoy it. If a teammate volunteers for a certain task, let them have it.
3. Tasks which you cannot do very well
Use your team members skills and abilities. Give them the tasks that they could do better so that you can devote your time to other things. Do not compete with your team members. If they can do a task better, let them do it. If you need to spend more time planning and strategizing, delegate your most time-consuming tasks. This will free up the time you need to do your job.
4. Dont keep tasks for yourself what you love to do
People often keep tasks that they enjoy most for themselves even if the task is not their responsibility. These tasks are not the best way to spend your time and energy. Delegate tasks to team members who would benefit from the additional skill development. If you are already good at completing a certain task, let someone else have a chance to try it.
Choose the best person for delegation
All of your team members may not be capable to fulfill the same degree of responsibility. So you need to identify the person who can fit the bill. Besides, the skill of the person should be taken into account. All team members do not have all the skills in equal measure. The leader must understand and choose the person for delegation with discretion.
You may delegate tasks even to teammates who resist accepting them. As a leader, it is your responsibility to define tasks within a persons abilities and encourage them to develop their skills.
Time is the essence
If you are up against a tight deadline, you may not have time to delegate a task to someone who needs some training. In this case, you will have to delegate the task to a conscientious teammate who can get the job done quickly and correctly.
Be ready to help when required
Delegation often reveals your teammates strengths and weaknesses that may not have been apparent beforehand. As the LL 2 leader learned, you must be prepared to give your teammates your support.
Once you have delegated the task, trust your choice, trust the person whom you have delegated. Any kind of interference will demotivate the delegate. It will also affect his/her self-esteem. The purpose of delegation is to seek assistance and develop people. When any delegate performs a task satisfactorily it is bound to give them joy. Help them to enjoy the satisfaction they deserve.
