Thought4TheDay (11.10.2017)
Yesterday, we had seen that according to The Bhagavad Gita the three inherent Gunas or tendencies that determine our actions are: satava, Rajas & tamas. We had also observed how ea ch of these manifests itself in our activities. The first thing that we must do is to understand that at any moment which of these three gunas it tendencies are dominant. Tamas should not be allowed to become me prominent in any case.
Our goals, when these are to achieve some worldly possessions will require conscious, committed actions which we must perform as a duty if we seriously want to achieve our goals. Since these gunas or tendencies are never mutually exclusive, we need to ensure that along with our commitment to following the plan of action, we need to take care that the attributes of satava are always present in our hard-work for any achievement.
Our realistic goals will also give us satisfaction in the highly competitive world today; satisfaction of working for the growing needs of our family members. Besides, they r more likely to adopt our path and the togetherness will bring peace in the family. In any case, materialistic goals should never be allowed to turn into greed.
Thought4TheDay (10.10.2017)
According to The Bhagavad Gita, our actions are triggered and happen due to three categories of the ‘gunas’ or inherant tendencies. These tendencies and their attributes are as under:

  1. Satava which augments quest for knowledge. One starts pursuit of understanding life, accepting as it is. Wisdom is gained to devote time and effort to do our duty for the growth and progress of society. One is happy with himself/herself and lives a significant life peacefully.
  2. Rajas makes one ambitious. Such endeavors are undertaken which may win worldly possessions, power and reputation. One wants to dominate others, and become an authority. Hyper activity, being in a hurry pervades the life. Excitement over achievements and anguish over failures rule life.
  3. Tamas makes one lazy, inactive and inert. He/she loses interest in life and languish listlessly; loss of any initiative, wasteful activities come to the fore. The person procrastinates on everything. It’s almost getting into hibernation without any need and/or possible benefits. In short, one loses self-esteem altogether and becomes good for nothing. (to be continued)

The dialogue between the Lord Almighty, Krishna, and Arjuna sets an example of perfect communication. Krishna tries to explain meaning of life, importance of understanding one’s duty and devotedly performing the same in simple language. However, due to complexity of the subject, Arjuna is not able to grasp and assimilate many things. In such situations, even knowing fully well that Krishna is God Almighty, Arjuna questions the Ideas propounded by the Lord. He does not accept everything without understanding, without talking about his personal difficulties in respect of views, advice or direction.
Their frank and free dialogue teaches us the importance of assertiveness. Assertiveness, among other things, also means that never say ‘yes’ if you need or want to say ‘no’. But we must know how to say ‘no’. By and large people hesitate in doing so. The result is that either they slog and suffer or they prove themselves to be unreliable. Lack of ability to be assertive on the part of the employees and unclear and poor communications cause immense loss to the organisations. At home this inadequacy plays havoc in the family relationships.
Thought4The Day (08.10.2017)

Lord Krishna said, “I had imparted knowledge about the traditional yoga to the sun Lord Surya. He had communicated the same to his son Vivasvan Manu who in turn taught the same to his son Ikshvaku”.
” In this manner descending from the old traditions, this yoga became known to the kings and the saints. But after that, for a long time, this yoga had gone to the oblivion and vanished from the earth…..you are my disciple, my devotee and my dear friend. Therefore, I have explained the yoga (knowledge) to you.”
Arjun asked the Lord how is it possible when He is born now, whereas Surya was born ages ago. Then, Lord Krishna explains about the repetitive births of the soul and that while He remembers, Arjuna does not, as the later is an ordinary human being.”
We observe that Arjuna asks Lord the Almighty anything that he doesn’t understand without any hesitation. But, today, we commoners hesitate to ask questions to the Gurus and our bosses even when we do not understand. This results in fallacious knowledge and the consequent avoidable problems.

In literature, verisimilitude denotes semblance of reality. Great authors are adept in creating verisimilitude to heighten the effect of storytelling.
The fact is that this reality itself is an illusion- maya created by the Almighty. In this illusory world, people become bound by this maya. They keep on playing their roles without realising what they are up to, without stopping to think, who am I, what I am doing or what is my goal.
Therefore, knowledge is given such an elevated status. Knowledge enables you to see through this maya. Knowledge brings the realisation that accumulating worldly possessions is of little gain if the person has to trade his personal peace to achieve these.
The knowledgeable know this deeply. He/she carries out their duty in an unattached fashion and lives life accordingly. But the knowledgeable is advised by the Almighty Himself not to disrupt people of lesser wisdom who remain engaged in performance of their duty for material gains.
Nevertheless, they too contribute to the growth of human society, humanity at large.
Thought4TheDay (06.10.2017)

There are certain wrong impressions about the core message of The Bhagavad Gita. It’s often believed that according to the great book of knowledge an individual has the obligation to perform his duty. But he or she has no right over the fruit or the result of their efforts. It’s a myth. When you perform your duty wholeheartedly, the results are bound to be good, and these are all yours. The core message of The Bhagavad Gita is that we should not be attached with the results. We should not keep on looking at the desired fruits of our efforts.
Things don’t happen the way we have planned. When we keep expecting the fruit or fulfilling of the personal interests, the quality of our efforts will be affected. In fact, that is shortsightedness. It leads to, or is the root cause of corruption. We start taking shortcuts. We want to become rich overnight. One thing leads to another. Greed grows. The final result is disastrous.
Making efforts as your duty demands, without attachment, would mean that we remain unperturbed because of the on the job rebuffs. We will keep following the right path. Achievement will surely come in proper time. So, a feeling that we have no right over the fruits of efforts is fallacious.

The knowledgeable and the wise understands that our significance in this life is best served if we serve the Almighty, the Super soul incorporating the entire humanity selflessly. This service is the greatest form of worship. No rituals are required for the service of mankind. All that is needed is performance of one’s duty which is dedicated to the upliftment of those who are suffering and who need help. Some people, who strive to work hard to get the rewards of their efforts in achieving what they want in the form of worldly possessions, they get them. But these are transient, perishable, because all these are left behind when we depart and leave this body.
The wise does not get attached. All achievement are made for the progress of society. There is no doubt that nothing worthwhile is achieved without contributions from the other members of the society.
The worst is suffered by the person of tamasik nature, when the person hates to work. Laziness, procrastination and indecision leading to inaction produce guilt in the mind and the concerned one suffers.
” Duty first, always in mind, greater joy you will never find.”
Thought4TheDay (04.10.2017)
Lord Krishna says, “Hidden amidst My yoga maya (illusion), I am not visible to everyone. Therefore, ordinary people are not in a position to realise My presence everywhere. I am birth less and immortal unlike common human beings”. “Whoever has lived and whatever has happened in the past, I know it all. I know about the present and the future. But whoever is not My true devotee will never understand Me, realise Me”.
“Born out of desire and envy, people get pleasure or pain. These are the ones who are enamoured by My maya and remain in their own ignorant world. They are not the seekers of truth. They remain devoid of knowledge”.
Quest for knowledge is the first step towards self realisation. Who am I? What am I doing? what is my significance? What is the purpose of my life? When you contemplate on these pertinent perennial questions, your anxiety, worry or stress of any kind is bound to vanish. You start understanding life. You realise that life does not offer poetic justice. You start accepting life as it is and become a person at peace with self.

The persons whose wisdom is captured by the desire to own the worldly possessions, motivated by their dominant attributes, start worshiping deities. The Lord Almighty helps in them to strengthen their belief and make them more focused in their objectives. Thus a person with faith is never a loser. In fact, someone who lacks faith, who also lacks in self belief, is the one who has lost path and is not even able to pursue his own goals.
Faith helps to shape your actions. Self belief gives you the confidence that you are able to achieve what you desire. That motivates you to be consistent in your approach. But if you lack faith, you are bound to lose your path. Instead of building your self esteem by trying your best to reach your goal, you get distracted and in such a situation, it is not possible to persevere in your efforts. Therefore, you are not able to achieve what you want; your efforts are wasted.
Faith in God and self belief followed by consistent hard work constitute the necessary ingredients of your achievement, your success.
Thought4TheDay (02.10.2017)

There are four types of devotees: 1. Those who worship God with a desire to achieve material, worldly objects. 2. Those who are in dire difficulties and want to come out of these. 3. Those who have quest for knowledge. 4. And the wise.
Lord Krishna tells Arjuna that all the four types of devotees are dear to Him. But the wise or the knowledgeable is most loveable because such an individual is, in fact, His own reflection, who has merged in Him, realised Him.
The individual who finds God in everything around is always at peace with self. There is no stress, no worry, no difficulty, even no calamity that can disturb mental stability and peace of such an individual. No doubt, it is rare to find such a sacred soul.
At the same time, we observe that response of everyone is not the same to the dreadful circumstances. Life is like an ocean: sometimes calm and peaceful, but at other times, it may turn violent and full of fury. But for the knowledgeable that is life, different facets, a constant battle between the good and the evil, a unique creation which is our reality.

There are three tendencies present in the mind of any individual. These are – ‘Satvaguna’, ‘Rajoguna’ and ‘Tamoguna’. Satvaguna drives the person to pursue the spiritual and saintly activities; Rajoguna promotes desire for worldly possessions, and Tamoguna drives one to be lazy and insolent who avoids to do any work.
“Actions, born due to interaction of these three Gunas (attributes) – Satva (endowed with goodness), Rajas (endowed with passion) and Tamas (ignorance) influence all living beings and leave them enamoured.”
“Because my maya (a deceptive illusion of reality) is full of wonder and perplexity, it is extremely difficult to overcome. But seekers, who worship Me and meditate transcend above the influence of this maya (illusion).”
The three tendencies-Satva, Rajas and Tamas interplay among themselves in any ordinary individual all the times. When Satvaguna becomes strong overpowering the other two, the individual gets engaged in devotion to the Almighty, works for the good of humanity, performs duty without being attached to the results.
Likewise, Rajoguna suppresses the other two and Tamoguna becomes dominant among the three at different times.
THought4TheDay (30.09.2017)

“Arjuna, I am the immortal seed of life on earth. I am the wisdom of the wise and I am the divinity of the divine. I am tapa(penance) of the saints. I am the courage of the brave; knowledge of the knowledgeable; heat of the fire; life in all living beings.
” Thus, excellence in any activity is the gift of the Almighty, His grace. When we know this, we are motivated to do our best in whatever we do because that is nothing but service to Him. Insolence is against His wishes. Inactivity takes us away from Him. The application of mind, all inventions and developments of the material and the intellect invoke His divine pleasure. The lessons that we draw will never allow us to lose our chosen path. The consistency and perseverance without which no worthwhile project can be achieved are His grace. This should be considered by us as our worship and devotion to Him.
In fact, performance of our duty to the best of our ability takes us closer to Him when it’s performed without any selfish motive.

Thought4TheDay (29.09.2017)

Lord Krishna explains to Arjuna that He is omnipresent. The entire cosmos is created by Him. In fact, He is the entire cosmos. He is the Nature. He is the light and heat of the sun. He grants liquidity to water, He is the ether; the air; the vegetation; the ocean with all its aquatic life, and everything the we see and perceive. Thus, when we recognise this and respect Nature and the entire cosmos, we are recognising Him, we are respecting Him. He is the beginning, He is the end; He is the cause and He is the result.
If that be so, all we must do to live significantly is to accept life as it is. We must never feel dejected or neglected. Life was never the same for everyone; it is never same now and will never be the same in times to come. It, however, would not mean that we have no contribution to make. It only means that whatever role we are playing, we should do that to the best of our ability, our might. Because, we are a part of Him, belong to Him; we only have to dedicate all our efforts to Him.
Progress is assured according to the efficacy of our performance, but more importantly, we remain at peace with ourselves. Live Stress free Life; Read Gita.
Thought4TheDay (28.09.2017)

Lord Krishna to Arjuna:
“I will explain to you the complete divine wisdom based on Science. Once you acquire this Knowledge, nothing remains worthy to be known anymore.”
“Among thousands of people, only one really tries to realise Me. And among those yogis rarely one, devotes himself whole heartedly to Me, understand Me correctly and in the true sense.”
“Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and ego – My nature is divided into these eight elements. These elements comprise My basic nature. The other side of My nature is responsible for all living beings. It is the living consciousness.”
We are indeed a minuscule part of Lord, the Almighty. Without undermining our progress, we need to meditate, devote some time to think about significance of life, about our duty which is to serve Lord the Almighty by serving the humanity at large. In this way we can be at peace with ourselves and experience true happiness.

Thought4TheDay (27.09.2017)

“The ‘yogabhrasht’ person, who has lost his way, is propelled by previous practices, in his next birth. He is instinctively attracted towards the Almighty. Such a seeker of the yoga of constant attitude, and stable mind, transcends the ill-effects of ‘sakam purush’ (man with some desire for the fruit of his deeds or those done with selfish motives).
“But the yogi, who is an unattached practitioner, and is making the best of efforts, is empowered with the force and direction of the previous births. He becomes free from sins during the current birth. He, soon, achieves salvation.”
“A yogi is superior to a tapasvi (hermit). He is also superior to the wise persons who have Knowledge of the shastras (sacred books). He is undoubtedly better than those knowledgeable persons who perform their deeds with selfish ends in mind. Therefore, Arjuna, you must become a yogi.”
Accordingly, a unattached person engaged with his work wholeheartedly, is at peace with himself. Even with better productivity, he remains without stress. But when we look for profit in every small thing that we may do, in fact, we become losers, under stress. We are anxious to ensure that our selfish interests are achieved. But life does not offer ‘poetic justice’.
Thought4TheDay (26.09.2017)

Arjuna said: ” Shree Krishna, what happens to the person who has devotion towards yoga, but is not disciplined enough and whose mind drifts away from yoga, and, who is not in a position to achieve the state of self-realisation? What is his state?”
“A seeker who is lost from the path of the Almighty; what happens to him? Defeated from both the sides, does he end up in disaster?”
The Lord Almighty said, “Arjuna, such a person is neither ruined in this world nor after his death. He who follows the path of salvation of the soul, of realising the Almighty is never degraded.”
” The unfulfilled person reaches the abode of the noble and the virtuous, and after residing there for many long years, is born again in the families of respectable people who follow the path of purity.”
Thus, efforts with good intentions and earnest efforts are never wasted. The enterprise may not achieve the planned goals, but it will result in making the entrepreneur realise that each failure is a step towards the final success. So he never gives up!

Thought4The Day(25.09.2017)

Arjuna said, “Yoga which you have defined, as maintaining the steady state of the mind amidst diverse situations, due to the fickle nature of the mind, is very difficult to achieve.”
“Mind is extremely capricious and obstinate. Therefore I consider controlling the mind is as difficult as stopping the wind.”
Lord Almighty said; “There is no doubt that the mind is extremely fickle and difficult to control, but with continuous practice of unattachment and constant efforts, it can come under control.”
“For the person who is unable to control his mind, yoga is unachievable, but the person who has controlled his mind, can attain yoga easily. This is my considered opinion.”
Making decisions under challenging circumstances is extremely difficult but critical. Unless we keep our mind in control, it is very difficult not to be led in negative emotions which poorly reflect in our decisions. Procrastination is the worst enemy of someone who wants to progress. If the mind is not stable and resolute, procrastination is likely to overpower. But with continuous practice, one can achieve the stability of mind which is one of the most desirable assets in the management principles.
Thought4The Day (24.09.2017)

“The yoga, which eradicates unhappiness altogether can be achieved only by someone who eats what is necessary and sleeps or keeps awake only as required by the body, He carries out only such actions as his duty demands.”
“When the mind, which is in complete control stabilises in the meditation of the Alminghty, when there remains no animal desire to enjoy wordly objects, it is said, that is the status of the person who becomes a yogi and is unaffected by all wordly affairs.”
“Just as in a place, where there is a lamp that does not flicker, because there is no wind that can disturb the placidness of the flame, the same simile applies to a yogi engaged in meditation about the Almighty. His concentration is never affected. His peace is never disturbed.”
When we look at life we find the principle true and relevant to a aspects of life. Now, what is the principle, and how does it help?
The principle of putting your mind and soul in what you are doing. In way we start enjoying what we do. Needless to say that productivity is improved and it brings satisfaction.
One may think of any situation, the result will be the same: Excellent! Do you agree?

“The person whose likes and dislikes are replaced with wisdom and science, whose intentions are beyond any blemishes, who has thoroughly conquered his senses, and for whom dust, stone and gold are all alike; it is said such a yogi (ascetic) is complete and is on the right path or in other words, he has realized God.” “He is the purest and most worthy among human beings. He is unselfish and interested in the good of everyone. He does not distinguish between friend and foe. He treats alike, the virtous and the sinners.”
“The person who keeps complete control over his body including his senses and his mind, he who does not live on vain hopes and is free from greed is a yogi. He should often seek a solitary place and meditate continuously with his devoted mind about the marvels of the Almighty.”
If we spend sometime daily on contemplating what has been said above life would peaceful and stress free.
I request all friends to share these words of Lord Krishna for benefit of others.
Thought4TheDay (22. 09.2017)

“The person who has controlled his mind, and gets endowed with the purity of thoughts, his ‘atma’ (soul) is no less than Almighty, as he is the embodiment of atma in all beings; Such a karamyogi carries on performing his duties without attachment”
“The man of wisdom, Sankhyayogi; when he touches or when he smells; when he speaks or he listens; when he eats or walks or sleeps or breathes; when he relinquishes or receives, and even when he closes his eyes or opens them, when he walks or sits, considers that all his senses carry on with their functions. He thinks that he, in fact, is not doing anything whatsoever.”
Thus the person who has dedicated all his actions to the Almighty (society, or humanity at large) gets rid of attachments of all kinds and performs his duty peacefully. He is like a lotus flower in muddy waters and doesn’t get affected by sins of any kind. When the focus is just on doing what you are doing, the performance would be at par excellence, undoubtedly.
